The urban streets of Málaga are being transformed through art. This renewal initiative that is transforming the SOHO area of Málaga is known as MAUS.

Behind the “Centre for Contemporary Arts”, the triangular shaped area of land is locally known as SOHO. This area is bounded by Alameda Principal at the south and runs towards the port area of Málaga. Once occupied by bourgeois has some marvellous architecture of nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Even though the area has unique historical importance and occupies the central location of the city, the SOHO area was being neglected for the past fifty years.

MAUS Project

MAUS project was launched to change the perspective of the world towards SOHO. Due to the MAUS project, SOHO has gained increasing international recognition by displaying different disciplines of arts. Photography, painting, sculpture, music, and dance has filled Málaga’s streets with colours and joys.

SOHO has become a centre of attention for artists around all over the world. The activities of the MAUS project have been carried out by local residents as well as renowned international artists. There is an ‘open wall’ meant for passing artists, who can leave their own contributions.

SOHO has now turned into a canvas for people who love arts and painting.

The real way to experience marvellous urban street art of SOHO is by walking around the neighbourhood yourself. As it is situated at walking distance from all Málaga’s tourist sites, SOHO has become a wander around spot for tourists and artists.

If you’re planning to visit Málaga, the “Centre of Contemporary Arts” should be a must go place as well as SOHO. Also, there are some very reasonably priced restaurants and bars in the near vicinity.

Following is the list of extraordinary paintings that can be seen at SOHO, contributed by highly talented and famous artists.

The fighter pilot by D*FACE

The renowned artist Dean Stockton, also known as “D*Face”, has painted his largest wall painting in the city of Málaga. At the building of Calle Comandante Benitez 14, D*Face painted a huge seven-story wall painting of a fighter pilot, that can be seen from afar. As his signature stated, “I’ll put an end to those flying D*Dog if it’s the last thing I’ll ever do.”

Paz y Libertad by OBEY

The famous artist Frank Shepard Fairey is amongst the biggest names in urban street arts. In the 2008’s electoral campaign, the famous ‘hope’ poster of the former president of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama, gave OBEY international recognition.

OBEY painted his 80’x30’ wall painting in Málaga next to D*Face mural at Calle Comandante Benitez 14, depicting his wife Amanda.

Chameleon by ROA

Belgian born street artist, ROA, caught people attention when he painted a series of animal forms over walls of leftover warehouses near his house. ROA’s work has now appeared in apparently all cities of the world.

ROA’s paints his marvellous paintings usually in black and white, that too only animals that are native to the area in which painting is being painted.

He says that his work is a voice for animals whose rightful habitat was destroyed by the people while building the cities.

In MAUS festival, ROA painted a huge chameleon along the side wall of Calle Casa de Campos.

Along with the marvellous piece of arts mentioned above, there are many more famous paintings by artists all over the world that are worth seeing. Some of the extraordinary work includes:
