New exhibition at the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga, from March 26 to September 6, 2015, entitled “Dias de Verano”, “Summer Days”. This exhibition takes its name from the work of the same artist Vicente Palmaroli, belonging to the museum’s collection. The show is a selection of works by Spanish and international painting from the mid-nineteenth century. In these works the beaches and the sea are the main theme.

At this time the middle classes began to make their summer vacation by the sea, beaches and resorts.

These habits began in regions such as the French Normandy, and then spread throughout the entire European continent, being in the twentieth century where this custom, now called summer tourism and so important in areas like the Costa del Sol will settle, in Málaga, and along the entire coast of Spain.

Artists also introduce these landscapes as backgrounds portraits of individuals and families, and reflected daily activities such as bathing, games, etc.
