The “Caminito del Rey“, located in the Natural Park Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, is located in the center of the province of Malaga, less than 60 km from the capital, bounded to the north by the Serrania de Ronda and the Plains of Antequera and south by the Guadalhorce valley and the historic region of Campo de Camara, is one of the best places to visit near Málaga.
In the past, Caminito del Rey was called ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Footpath’ and the ‘One of The World’s Scariest Hikes’ so it was decided to close it for 4 years and reopen in 2015.
After the refurbishment, Caminito del Rey has become a must for those who spend their holidays in Malaga enjoying nature and hiking paths. The route now is around 7km long and on a quite secure wooden platform attached to El Chorro gorge in the Guadalhorce Valley of Malaga.

Caminito del Rey: what you need to know
Caminito del Rey is one of the most famous hiking trails in Malaga due to its peculiar features: it’s a 7.7km path equipped with footbridges. You enjoy Caminito del Rey you have to pay the 10€ official entrance fee.
The hiking trail is just one way, from north to south and it’s divided into three sections:
- 2,7km of the access road (road in the forest)
- 3,2 km of footbridges and gorges and paths
- 1,8 km track and path to el Chorro
It takes between 2.5/3 hours to complete the whole route and it starts at a point called ‘el kiosko’ and ends at the station ‘el Chorro’.
How to get to Caminito del Rey from Málaga by train
If you decide to take a train to Caminito del Rey there is basically just one train per day that allows you to go hiking. The train MD 13057 leaves every morning at 10:06 from Maria Zambrano station in the city center. It arrives at el Chorro at 10:46.
If you decide to get to Caminito del Rey by train have to book the 12:30 or 13:00 tickets to be sure that you have enough time to take the shuttle bus and walk to the entrance.
After the visit, you must take the 15:50 train to go back to Malaga city. The one-way train ticket is 6.25€ per person.
How to get to Caminito del Rey from Málaga by car
As you have read above, having just one train to reach the Caminito del Rey limits a lot of the possibility of choosing your favorite time slots for the visit. So if you want more flexibility, we recommend you car hire Málaga.
